Saturday morning, the new local BP branch that covers Okaloosa and Walton Counties took control of the operation from the unified command center in Mobile, Ala. It restructured and reduced the fleet to three task forces, or 78 boats.

Of the 78 boats that now patrol Okaloosa and Walton shores, about two-thirds patrol the Gulf of Mexico within 3 miles of the shore. The rest are deployed in Choctawhatchee Bay.
