Harvey was one heck of a hurricane. He will be remembered for a long long time.
Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas, as a Category 4 storm. It circled back out to the Gulf Coast and made a second landfall and is now tracking North through areas of the south and Midwest as a tropical depression. It will continue to weaken, but areas of Texas and Louisiana are expected to continue to receive heavy rainfall. Flash flood watches and warnings remain in place.
A state of emergency has been declared in 50 counties of Texas. A major disaster declaration was signed on August 25. A state of emergency was also declared in Louisiana due to the storm. In Texas, mandatory evacuations are in place for 780,000 people.
The long-term costs of the storm are likely to exceed $30 billion when impacts on agricultural, energy, and labor sectors are accounted for, and full recovery will take years.
