Bay Medical settles BP claim for $1.4 million
June 07, 2011
PANAMA CITY — The Bay Medical Center Board of Trustees voted Tuesday during an emergency meeting to approve a BP settlement for $1.4 million.
“We are very pleased that BP agreed to pay the hospital for $1.4 million for this partial claim,” said Bay Medical Center Board Chairman Floyd Skinner.
The hospital filed a claim using patient data by ZIP code to show that there were fewer tourists using the hospital from March and April of 2010 versus the same period from the previous year. Fewer patients means less revenue for the hospital.
Hospital officials are still looking at future claims against BP based on lost revenue from doctors and additional costs for providing more indigent care with more local people losing insurance after the oil spill, Skinner said.
