Peacemaker ship to visit Pensacola for the holidays
Hosted by the City of Pensacola Community Redevelopment Agency, the 150-foot ship will be open to the public for free dock-side tours daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Dec. 16 through Jan. 3, including on all holidays, at Plaza de Luna in downtown.
The Peacemaker was built on a riverbank in southern Brazil by an Italian family of boat builders, using traditional methods and fine tropical hardwoods. The ship was first launched in 1989 by its designer and owner, Frank Walker, a Brazilian industrialist, and today is operated by Lee Philips.
Pensacola is the last stop on the 2010 tour which has included Savannah, Ga.; Wilmington, N.C.; Yorktown, Va.; Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, Va.; Newburgh, N.Y.; Perth Amboy, N.J.; Philadelphia; New London, Conn.; Salem, Mass.; Deltaville, Va.; Cambridge, Mass.; Solomons, Md.; St. Mary’s City, Md.; and Jacksonville.
